Instruction

How can technology enhance instruction so that our teachers have access to technology-rich classrooms that meet the needs of today’s learners?

Ensure that all teachers (either by department or school) receive ongoing training and support that enables them to effectively use available technological resources.
Also:
We need to begin with websites. Schoolnotes is pretty basic. It would be helpful if each teacher would be required to post a standard (but interesting)website...and given the support to do so. Right now, we are all over the map on this...but I see this as very basic need to convey information to students, parents, and other interested parties.

It also would be helpful if we had Internet connected laptops and projectors in each classroom.

That is a very tall order, I know, but we can start small and continue to build on that.

My image of a technology-rich language classroom consists of…
- A teacher workstation that includes a laptop with a wireless Internet connection, a projector and a smart board
- A portable laptop classroom on a cart that my students can use in my classroom at any time, with wireless internet connections
- A large-screen TV with a combo DVD/VCR
- Several digital still and video cameras
- Computer software on which students can edit photos and videos and create their own movies
- A teacher who is secure and confident in the use of the above technology as a result of thorough peer-to-peer training and on-going technical and curricular support. :)

Dianne...your post includes it all! The simple idea of each teacher having a laptop with wireless internet access would be very beneficial.

I would love it if there were a simple workshop on how to create individual webpages/sites offered by the district. I agree with everyone's comments and hope to get more on the internet ball next year after I have a year under my belt. It would be great for those of us with exchanges, too.

Dianne, you almost everything I could think of. I know this is a stretch... but wouldn't it be nice if we could ensure that every student had internet access at home? I know the majority of our students already do, but there are some kids that are really at a disadvantage when it comes to this.

Having a technology-rich classroom is important. For me, the most important aspect besides having all the equipment is being trained on how to use and implement these technology tools.

Can we make a short term and longterm list to get some simpler things done?
